I've just registered and didn't have any problems - I logged out and back in again to be sure and it seems OK. In fact, if anything, it's easier because there's no activation via email [image]

I used the same info as on here (same username/password) but just registered as a new member.

By the way, I like the selection of new avatars - I've selected something a little more 'me' :P ;D

EXCELLENT NEWS [image] [image]

 PROBLEMS REGISTERING ON NEW FORUM?
« Result #6 on Oct 24, 2005, 11:14am »

I've noticed in the logs that quite a few people tried to log in, but can't figure out what's going on... so some help would be appreciated!

e. g.

* Are people using their old usernames and passwords without registering first? This is one possibility which occurred to me, but I can't be entirely sure. If that's the case - you will need to register again, for your protection I don't actually have access to your passwords and I cannot manually transfer existing members. (However, once you've registered on the new forum, you can e-mail me in case you forget your password and I can reset a new password for you).

* Is the "I agree" button at the bottom of the registration not prominent enough? Not clicking "I agree" will cause the registration to fail.

* Are you getting any error messages? (if so, which ones)?

It may either be something in the settings that needs adjusting or maybe it's not entirely clear that you need to register again (and cannot use the registration info you used on this forum) - it would be great if people could let me know! Cheers :D!

Thanks for the info :) I don't know if he will try to fit a denture first or he will say it will have to be removed, but my next appointment is one week from today 8-)EEk not looking forward to that. I know that I still need to have filling done, so maybe we won't discuss the denture yet. I would rather discuss everything that needs to be done, so I know what to expect. Sometimes he is really busy and we just touch on issues. I will just have to try and slow him down and discuss everything. My appointment is a half hour after opening, so he shouldn't be too busy yet I hope. Just need to make sure I don't feakout and just say ok ok ok, as I do not talk much when I am nervous [image]

I went to an Oral Surgeon. I had them put me on Twilight Sleep. I was a loopey chick for a few good hours. I slept the whole way home and Ed just poured me into bed. Pain was pretty bad at first, (Felt like an abcess in the lower middle of my jaw). Oweee...

It's not excruciating pain, it is just really tender and you are constantly reminder it is there with every tongue movement.

I ate pudding and soups for about two weeks until I could eat soft foods. Blegh! Talk about really hating soup! Do not get campbells soup the salt burns. Get soup that has less sodium counts. I made some of them myself for better flavor and froze them in small containers the week before. I spent a lot of time in the kitchen but it was definitly worth it!

Well, I got a reply...

"Hello Vicki
Yes this does make sense and it might surprise you to know that quite a few people have had experiences like these. Our bodies remember and our bodies are essentially protective. We can release you from this. Would you like to make an appointment?"

As you can probably guess, I am a little relieved :) and have replied to her email saying that I would like an appointment.

Will let you know when that is, on the new board - obviously as myself though, not as "test4"! :P

Thank you so much for all your help and advice so far, I wouldn't have been able to get this far without it - and I certainly wouldn't have even contemplated letting anyone else know about this before I posted on here (still completely terrified and overwhelmed but at least I've taken a few steps further (in my head anyway :))). Whether or not I'll be able to write that letter and hand it over at the dentists is another matter though :-/ - I really hope so, but one step at a time...

Anyway, I'm off to sign up on the new board! ;D [image]

I've finally managed to do it (and hit the send button) but I'm now very [image] [image] [image] :'( because it means that I've actually told someone about it (even though I know that potentially thousands of people have read what I've typed on here) and even though I've trusted her enough to discuss the panic attacks etc, I'm dreading tomorrow now because I'll probably get a reply [image]

Nice colours.... At least with web, you have a more limited choice of colours so I guess it's a bit easier to decide ???. When I design stuff, I use the Pantone colours(amongst others) which means there's thousands and thousands to choose from which is not always a good thing, especially if you can't always make up your mind! :P

Actually, this only applies if you're using hex safe colours, but as far as I understand, it's no longer necessary to use hex safe, because pretty much all computers/monitors support millions of colours... so what if there's a bit of dithering... couldn't find any hex safe colors I liked, lol. It's difficult though to find good colours, because they always look different depending on the surface area and the surrounding colours :-X. What would be really nice would be gradients, but I believe it can be really hard to achieve with CSS (while retaining cross-browser compatibility). Easy enough to do in HTML w/o CSS... but pages load faster with CSS. Hmpf [image] .

Nice idea - if you have them in a separate section - perhaps organised in the same way as the dentistry questions archive? You could have sub-sections for the 'main' phobias where people could post as well as a general/other section - so that people can easily find success stories from people who have the same sort of phobia as well as also accessing all the other stories...

Kinda difficult though because it tends to be a right mix of phobias?? I was thinking of having subboards for different countries, because the MO is so different in the US compared to the UK, for example...

???

Sounds like a good idea - or if you can't make it in yourself, you could always send it via snail-mail...

I know I could post it but somehow it might be better if I could hand it in at reception. Besides, I feel so stupid not being able to go in there to buy toothpaste - I have got to do it somehow. Because it's so terrifying to go for an appointment, I can't bring myself to go in there at any other time so if I can persuade someone else to go, I do - luckily I know a couple of people who also go there (I know it sounds strange) :-/.

I could post the letter but I don't think it would make it to the postbox - even though there's one at the bottom of the road (right next to a dental surgery! [image] ), I'd probably get as far as the postbox and then walk back home again! :-/ If I can make it through the door to get the duraphat, then there's maybe more chance of me handing it over - 'cause I'll hand it over at the same time as the money (in an ideal world where courage was in plentiful supply).

Best of luck with that e-mail [image] ! I'm sure you're not the first person with a dental phobia she's seen (as far as phobias go, it's a very, err, popular one ;D)!

I've tweaked the color scheme a bit (the blue was a bit too muddy, and was beginning to depress me, LOL. I've also changed the green on the "find" board to something which will fit better into the overall scheme for the whole website...

Because I get stressed and have the odd panic attack anyway sometimes, I guess it must add to the feeling that I must be nuts - even though I can't be completely nuts otherwise I wouldn't have made it through uni or been able to hang onto a job. It's sometimes hard to think anything else though when you're surrounded by people who don't have a problem with it.

Using that definition of "nuts", a large percentage of the population would be "nuts"... that's before taking into account anyone with a serious mental illness :)...

My alternative shortlist is very very short at the moment - needs to be a bit longer before I email/write to anyone on it - that way I would stand a better chance of a positive response (in theory).

Very true - that's basic statistics for you :D

As it says above, there's a new board for dentist requests and recommendations:

http://www.dentalfearcentral.org/cgi-bin/find/YaBB.pl

You could check if any dentists of the ones mentioned here take Delta:

Thanks!! I would like to do the implant thing, however do to the fact that I can not dwindle my savings as my parents (both in there mid 70's) live with me, that is not an option at this time. I had to claim bankruptsy after my divorce 8 years ago, so Care Credit will not be an option for two more years. Possibly after that I can think about implants. For now I will probably have to consider a partial to balance my bite out, so that I do not cause my TMJ to flare up. The tori is what worries me though. Did your dentist remove it or did you go to an oral surgeon???

Hello Morgan...
First, go see a dentist. They have seen everything and I do mean everything. I know shame plays a huge role here so I want you to know that you are one in a million who has not seen a dentist in a while and they are not going to make you feel bad if they are a good caring dentist. I had to have all of my molars removed, root canals on all of my front teeth, I was a mess too! I'm healthy now.. A little broke but I can smile!
You will be amazed at what they can do! I had teeth I thought for sure they would have to remove, they did post core buildups and saved them. Plus, if they can't fix them and if they do need to be pulled there are many options for you. Flippers, immediate partials, bonding replacement teeth to existing ones for added support and asthetics... Really, I went from being a girl who couldn't smile to a girl who can't stop.

Check out my pictures at

www.freewebs.com/rbrady77/pictures.htm

The second group of pictures shows you my half smile, my half smile with hope of getting work done, my first photo in years showing teeth in the lower left, (these were with temp crowns and the color was a little more yellow than I liked. The bottom pictures take you through second set of temp crowns, then to beautiful crowns! I smile so much now I can't stop!

My best to you!

Check out my dental page for information on how to save money and to get the help you need as well!

Implants...

I had my dentist place 2 implants last week. This took me back to the first molar. I can eat comfortably and when I pay off these two I will have two more placed to take me back to the 2nd molar. Then, I'm done... I know the cost is huge but I must say that they are so worth every penny. It's like having your real teeth back! The lower partial is a pain to get used to. Even worse if you are dealing with a full denture. It just kind of sits there... The tori situation stinks. I had the same problem. They did surgery to remove it, I don't want to scare you but healing from that was not the best of experiences of my life. The first week I was heavily medicated and I was in pain. I did lose weight though! :0) Hope you don't have to go through it.

Good Luck
Nicole
