Just thought I'd let you know that I wont be around for some weeks...(mum is having a big op next week and i need to go and look after her)
I am waiting for my next appointment at the phobics clinic to start (hopefully) the rest of my treatment . Having to put this on hold for the time being, and i feel that it will knock me back so to speak, after taking that first huge step to have the extractions done. But I will be back here for some moral support as soon as I can.
Hope everything goes well for you all.

Sorry to hear that your mom is having surgery, I wish her well.
How about instead of thinking of this as a setback, think of it as time to learn and practice some relaxation or self-hypnosis technique. Lots of good stuff on line. Set a daily goal for yourself so that you will follow through and set up a journal and record each session. You will be doing positive until you are able to get back to the dentist. Of course I've no idea who much time you have considering you may be spending a lot of time caring for your mom.
Wishing your mom a speedy recovery. Betty

well I'm back after looking after mum.... she's doing fine, tho still a long recovery ahead. Its horrid to think that she was brave enough to go through a 7 hour op and here i am scared of any dental treatment!!! I've been trying to catch up on these boards and read a few posts so far..... but the old "heart racing" thing is back with a vengeance! seems like i'm back to square one.

It's great to hear that your mum is doing well after the op - I'm glad it went OK! It might help to read back through the thread where you described your last experience - it's easy to forget how well it went and to focus on events in the dim and distant past instead. Anyway - welcome back

My next appointment has just come through...... 28th sept Its only for an assessment but i'm still scared! I have to go on my own this time too, and to a different clinic. I have visions of getting there and being told that I need the rest extracted. I'm trying to tell myself that if that was the case, they would ask me back to the other clinic who specialise in extractions. I really need to go through with this and have the fillings done and part false fitted. Trouble is..... Ive only ever had three fillings done before and i was left in agony through the school holidays, the back one had not been filled properly and every time i opened my mouth outside, and the cold air got to it i had excruciating pain. I had that tooth extracted and never went back for years..... hence the position i'm in now.

Welcome back !! I think your fear that you'll be told you need the rest extracted is unfounded - as far as I can remember, the first dentist you saw didn't find anything like that . Correct me if I'm wrong . The vast majority of fillings are pretty straightforward and uneventful. The problem with leaving things as they are is that you're virtually guaranteed to end up with bigger problems... You coped fantastically well with the extractions and there is absolutely no reason why this should be different . The assessment is really more of a "get to know you" meeting, which gives you the chance to build trust and get to know your dentist (and vice versa!). I hope you'll get on really well !

thanks for your reply lets. The first dentist didnt find too much wrong but did say I had gum disease which could be treated, and that I needed loads of fillings, but HE didnt take x-rays. That was done when I went for the extractions at another clinic. No doubt, I will find out at the assessment. It will also give me the chance to voice my concern regarding the sedation levels! I have not mentioned this before cos I didnt want to put anyone off, but I do remember feeling great pain - ( had both "eye" teeth removed) but I'm assuming they hadnt got the sedation level right for me and had to top me up?

I suppose the best thing to do would be to ask these questions during the assessment appointment... fillings and things should be an whole lot easier than removing teeth with a very bad infection, though! I hope your mum is doing well !

Thank you lets. Hope you're right about it being easier without any infections. I know that going on my own will be horrendous for me and I'm certain that the panic attacks will set in, but I WILL make a list of questions to ask. One thing puzzles me tho....... apart from abcess/infection... i do not get toothache even when teeth get sooooo bad and break off? Thanks for asking about mum Lets.... she's doing great, back on her feet and walking miles every day

Great to hear your mum is doing so well ! One thing puzzles me tho....... apart from abcess/infection... i do not get toothache even when teeth get sooooo bad and break off? Yeah, seems to be quite a common occurrence (actually, numbwithfear was describing the same thing). I have no idea why that is
