Hi everyone, i wish id come across this site earlier. I have been terrified of dentist since i was little, my mum was on steriods throughout her pregnancy with me which caused weak teeth. When i was 3 i was on holiday and had an absecess, i went to the dentist who without anything just ripped my tooth out - resulting with blood evrywhere and so my phobia began - needles are a big part of it. I have struggled with my teeth since, not going to the dentist for ages, my teeth getting bad, abscess after abscess - slowly getting teeth out with IV sedation - but this still wasnt good as my veins are terrible and they were never good at putting the line in - so things got worse. Last year i was in pain nearly every day for 4 - 5months so decided that i would get all my top teeth out 16 of them. Im only 29 but my teeth were so embarrassing, pics terrible, i hated them. So in january this year, i eventually found a dentist at the hospital that would knock me out with gas then id wake up and my top teeth would be gone leaving only 7 on the bottom. I had been dreading this day all my life - but it had to be done as it was affecting my whole life - so off i went and i was okay, but the first thing i thought when i woke up was, god im not that sore, apart from my throat and oh no i will have to get the bottom ones out sometime! I am so glad i did it - no more pain, i healed really well - and lost a few pounds, i couldnt eat well for a little while, and i still struggle with the stigma attached, but luckily my partner loves me teeth or no teeth! Im not saying this is the best option - but it was for me. My heart goes out to anyone experiencing this as i know how bad it can be. thank you for eading this and take care. scardeycat

Hey Scaredycat: How did you find the courage to get all those teeth pulled? I am suppose to get 10 pulled (4 wisdom) and 6 molars and I am a nervous wreck. I spend every minute of every day worrying about the upcoming surgery! I try to distract my thoughts but I can't! I am terrified of the pain I will be in afterwards. Any tips on what I can do to alleviate it? Also, how fast did you fall asleep once they gave you the general anesthesia?

Hi buses, i was exactly like you, as soon as i had the appointment every morning i woke up i would start worrying about it, i nearly changed my mine several times - but am sooooo glad i didnt, trust me you will feel so much relief after. I was out for the count before the count of 10 - and then the best bit when you wake up - its done - its over - none of those teeth will ever give you trouble again! I know everyone is different but i am a total coward when it comes to pain, but i was really surprised how well i felt afterwards - particularly compared to the toothache i had previously suffered, so all the best, let me know how you get on, take care xo

Scaredycat: I find your post to be so encouraging! I woke up this morning in a state of panic thinking it was the day of my surgery (Monday). I am literally making myself sick over here with worry. Naturally I worry about the pain afterwards. Did you say you had 16 teeth pulled at once? If so, I am impressed. How was your post-op recovery?

Hi how are you doing? i woke every morning like you thinking another day closer, it was terrible but it was worth it. My recovery went really well, i lost some weight due to the restrictions in eating - but remember i had had all my top teeth out! Considering i had been dreading this for longer than i could remember i could not believe how easy it was compared to my imagination. I really hope things go well for you - let me know. Oh! I was awake after the surgery before i thought id fallen asleep! good luck!

Scardeycat Im only 25 and i didnt visit dentist over 5 years since we didnt have enough money and i had bad time when i was young but i kicking myslef for not taking care of my teeth before. So i will have my top complete denture soon i hope in 2 weeks. ( wax fitting this monday) but i have 10 teeth on bottom left no wisdoms and no backmolars on bottom. Do ya have both top complete denture and bottom partial since ya only have 7 on bottom???
I was scare of dentist when i had my exam and xray so i ask for sedation and he does oral sedation but if i wanna i could done it with oral surgeon for more money and have it in 1 day instead 3 days with dentist and have laughing gas or iv sedation but i was brave enough took oral sedation and i was not in pain till he did my impact wisdom on 3rd treatment in bottom . But i didnt feel much pain also he give me alot of shots and same stuff in shot but its like thick liquid he use a q tip on my gums before he did shots so he freeze them very good.
