I'm ending a week of PCN to kill an infection in a tooth that needs a root canal. I've read the troubles of numbing the bottom jaw,but I've got just as much trouble w/ the top teeth! I don't see how I can endure a root canal when even after shots, air or water still sends it throbbing. Looking for specialist in San Diego area. Also, couldn't insurance provide general anesthesia if it's considered 'medical' (I mean I can't keep this tooth as is..)? I could never pay out of pocket!thanx in advance!!

There might be some dentists in that area that practice sleep dentistry. I don't know why dental insurance is so cheapy when it comes to covering anesthesia. It borders on barbarism, I think. I think we should have a yearly limit, and whatever we choose until we hit that limit, should be allowed.
I also have a big problem getting numb. But 2 dentists have been able to do it. They give the shot way in the back first. Then they give another shot or two closer to the front of the mouth. The shot isn't too uncomfortable after the shots given way in the back start to take effect. Nitrous is a big plus in addition to that but, I swear, I've been completely numb after they put the shot right where I need it.

This guy is supposed to be good: Ashley A. Goodman, D.D.S. 8736 Lake Murray Blvd. Suite 108 San Diego, CA 92119-2798 Phone: (619) 697-6677 site.netopia.com/agoodman/door/As always, I can't give any guarantees. And he might be quite busy. Have you experienced the same problem with numbing with various dentists?
