Well...i still cant believe i ahve actually made THE phone call!! After reading through this site yesterday, and realising i really am NOT ALONE in how i feel, and seeing the positive stories....that dentists do not make you feel "so small and pathetic" (like i do really feel about myself for being so scared that i have created huge dental problems for myself...), i have taken the plunge and arranged to see a dentist NEXT TUESDAY! Now i am still shaking....but i am determined to go. I spoke to the dentist himself on the phone and he really helped.....now i am jsut scared he will tell me the problems are just as bad, if not worse than i think they are and am scared to death he will tell me i have to habe them all out! HAd no sleep last night thinking about making appt...and will get no sleep now worrying what he will think and say....but will go!!! Thanks
Jenny

Jenny - that's fantastic news !!! Congratulations I hope you will manage to get some sleep over the coming days ;D - and I wouldn't worry about "what he will think" if it's he one of the people who were suggested here. Well done !!!

well done Jenny!! fantastic!!!...making that call is the first big challenge, one you have to face for yourself...and you've done it!! sure, it'll be scary going there next week...I'm approaching my fifth visit and I'm still shaking and anxious. But I've accepted my phobia, maybe one day I'll have conquered it...in the meantime I'm just glad I've found a dentist who can work with it...I hope you find the same. best of luck, & I'm sure you're going to discover things aren't as bad as you imagine!!

Great Job Jenny I know it was hard to make the appointment, but you did it I totally agree with den, you will be nervous, but you can do it. I too still get nervous and shaky when I go, even though I know the dentist will do everything possible not to cause me any discomfort. I have an appointment in less than 2 hours and I am shaking already, but I know I can do it and so can you

Thanks "Lets" I saw the dentist still didn't talk about filling. At first he said I had dry socket, than he said no . He thought the canker sore is causing the pain, but if it doesn't improve than I need to go back and he will pack the socket. I picked up the medicine for the sore, but I don't think that is causing the pain, as I have tried numing medicine already and it hasn't worked. I will see what happens today and tonight, a call in the morning if it is not improved as I do not want to wait until Monday and be in pain all weekend.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it turns out to be a canker sore, and that the medicine helps !! If it doesn't improve, definitely see him tomorrow - nothing worse than being in pain over the weekend... let us know what happens!

Yay, Jenny!!!! That's so great! Don't worry about the problems right now, just take it one step at a time. I am going to have to have about ten visits, I think, to get my mouth in perfect shape, but it's okay. You just do one thing at a time, and concentrate on each step. You've taken a big step by deciding to call and then actually doing it. Be proud of yourself. It won't be as bad as you think, I'll bet. It wasn't when I went. Let us know how it goes!!

Today is here......I have had hardly any sleep since i booked the appt....and now only 2 1/2 hours to go! I feel physically sick to my stomach, and am DREADING what he is going to say...feel sure that i have left things much too long and he will say they all have to come out.....have spent all night imagining him looking horrified and shouting at me....i am pretty sure he wont do that (he was recommended on here and i have spoken to him on the phone too....).....BUT there was no reasoning with me last night! I have only told you lot on here and my sister that i am going...cos i am too ashamed of how i feel to even have told my husband...he knows i have "problems" but thinks i am exaggerating the state of my teeth, and i really dont think i am!!! Think of me guys!

best of lucky Jenny! It's my appointment day too, so I know what that feeling's like...but just think, in a very short time it will all be over and you'll have this fantastic sense of achieving something you never thought you could, even if you just sit there and have a chat. Don't know who you're seeing - is it Graham R? - but believe me, it won't be a fraction as bad as you imagine - and the news will probably be far better than you're dreading! good luck!

Ok....so i have been!! Managed to get there, go in, sit in the chair and let him look inside my mouth! Once there i decided i NEEDED to know the worst....nothing could be as bad as i had been imaging...or could it?? Anyway....the dentist was brilliant, took his time, made me feel at ease and didnt "judge" me in any way at all.....that really helps because what i didnt realise til i found this site is that there are other people out there who are as worried as i was about what a dentist may think of me for leaving things so long!!! Good news really......yes, i have some gum disease, but it is treatable...need a really good clean (but was happier that the dentist himself does this and i will not have to see a different hygenist...he will also use anaesthetic if i want..for a clean!!!!!...couldnt believe this!!!..this had been a major problem for me in years past_ Then i need one tooth out (right at the back, remnants of a tooth that i have left) and 2 fillings!!! I am much relieved i can tell you....and will be going back next week to start the cleaning!!!......I daresay i will feel worried again next week cos actually got to have something done...but at least i have got over the 1st hurdle!

Jen - that's fantastic news !!! WELL DONE - I'm absolutely thrilled it went so well for you (uhm, could you drop me a PM to let me know which dentist you went with - it's good to know who gets positive feedback for future reference? Cheers !)
