I know it's mentioned on the main page of this board already, but for anyone who didn't spot it, here it goes...
About 6 months ago, I got contacted by Neil (Coulson), who's a health psychologist who does research into how internet groups help people cope or deal with various problems, including things like neurological disorders and IBS. He teamed up with Heather Buchanan, another health psychologist who is particularly interested in dental health and obstacles to it.
They're both based at the University of Derby in England (even if you're not anywhere near there, please read on!). The two of them want to find out how our message board can help (or not help, whatever) people with a dental phobia or dental anxiety, why people fear the dentist, and what dentists can do to alleviate fears.
They would like to present this information to dental colleagues, so that dentists will be better able to understand and help people who are scared.
Even though I'm not directly involved, I would be very grateful if you would all take part in their online survey (including anyone who has overcome their fears and doesn't hang around very much). The password is dfcstudy. Just click here:
www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=912591336458
It would be fantastic if you would allow them to quote bits of what you say, so that dentists will be better able to meet the needs of people with a dental phobia.
MANY THANKS FOR TAKING PART IN THIS PROJECT !!
[P.S.: I have read their past papers on various topics and can honestly say that you will not be quoted out of context or portrayed in any negative way! And they go to great lenghts to ensure anonymity.]
