Hi, I thought some introductions were in order: I'm the one who put up the www.dentalfearcentral.com website, but few of the ideas on that site are my own! A lot of pages were written by other people (anything that strikes you as vaguely coherent, basically ), and as for the rest - well, I've liberally stolen other people's ideas! But as they say, "there's no such thing as an original thought".
I started this site because I used to suffer from a pretty extreme phobia of dentists, following some rather bad experiences with dentists and other health professionals in my - now dim and distant - youth. It wouldn't be an understatement to say that I'd rather have wished myself or even loved ones dead rather than see a dentist. I don't think anyone who hasn't suffered from extreme dental phobia could possibly understand how deep the fear can go.
If you suffer from dental phobia and are trying to find a way out of the terror, please feel free to post. Or if you have some specific fears or phobias, or any questions relating to dentistry, post them on whichever board (support, dentistry questions, discussion, find a dentist etc.) appears appropriate to you. I'd also like to encourage you to talk to people "in real life" about it - but if that seems too difficult or embarrassing, the internet is a great place for finding support without having to reveal your identity.
I'd also like to introduce Gordon, our "resident dentist" (there may be more in the future, but I reckon he's well able to cope with the current flood of dentistry questions )! So whenever you see the name "Gordon", it's time to hide under your desk! (only joking, he's a fantastic guy, really ).
Welcome and post away!
Addendum: We've now got a second moderator and "resident dentist", Mike Gow, who's also very tame
