Hi everyone,
After worrying about what the dentist might find when he looks at my x-ray I decided to have a nose about on the internet. I have actually been able to look at x-rays and even graphic photos of varying stages of gum disease.
I'd not been able to do this before but found it very interesting. I think that some pictures that showed gingivitis look a fair bit like what I had on my back teeth, just redness around the teeth. The pictures showing mild peridontitis I think could look more like my front teeth, thought I'm not absolutely sure. I think I have more redness there than the gingivitis picture showed and some brown small rough areas. I have even had a look for the first time in years at the back of my lower front teeth, and apart from a couple of little brown areas near the top of the tooth the bottom looks nice and white, and I don't think the gums there look very red.
I saw some pictures of some poor people mouths who have advanced peridontitis and I really feel for them. I see now what is meant by 'pockets', it was actually visibly possible to see this just from a photo. I was petrified of this but I don't think I have this (touch wood). My gums look quite stuck to my teeth.
Dentists are amazing though, they had some before and after pictures and the improvement is amazing. They're teeth are nice and white and gums are firmly attached to the teeth again. Very clever stuff.
Hope everyone is having a nice day,
Faye
