Yesterday, I was perusing dental office design websites (sort of interior architects who design dental offices, often from scratch), and was surprised at some of the chosen layouts. Do people really fancy facing a wall? Maybe they do, I don't know, that's why I stuck up this poll. What about issues like claustrophobia, lack of "escape route", etc.? What's your opinion? Vote now, and add your comments in this thread! For some example layouts, see www.thedesign.com/gallery/ops/ops.htm(don't look if you find such images upsetting) You'll have to register in order to vote! Feel free to use an alias when registering.

At my dentist's I'm facing a window and his desk and book case. It's nice to be able to look out of the window, and I look at the stuff in the book case as well, though mostly I tend to look at my dentist when he works on my teeth.

Lol, this poll is making me feel better! My dentist has 4 rooms, 2 of them face windows and 2 face a wall with a cheesy landscape print on them. All 4 of the room have a TV in the corner. Unfortunately, I usually visit during soap opera/daytime talk show time, so no fun there. But I usually end up with my eyes closed during the procedure anyway.

Hmm well the dental chair actually faces the wall. But its ok cuz it has a cool photo of a boat on it.

My dentist has a beautiful waiting room with huge colouful paintings and big comfy sofas and candles. There is also a tv on the celing above the chair (although i havent seen a thing on it as my eyes are always shut!) It really helped me feel a bit more comfortable being in nice surroundings with soft music in the background. I have memories af plastic chairs in a tiny waiting room!!!

my dentist's chair faces the wall and various landscape prints (depending on the room). A window would be nice If it didnt look out into an area where people could see in and watch you. although as a child (probably before I became as phobic as I am) I remember playing around at my dentist office while one of my brothers were in the chair and we were able to find a window and make faces at him. What they really need is something on the ceiling where's waldo, hidden pictures anything even ceiling tiles you can count - cause that is all you see anyway. of course at my visit yesterday, I noticed that the knob on the big light they shine on you was extremely reflective and I could see inside my mouth. *shudder* gross! I am sorry I don't want to watch the drill or big fat fingers being stuck in my little mouth, so since it very close and completely cut off my view in the front I only had a tiny spot of ceiling to look at. Next month I am bringing in a removable sticker!
