We can put up all the dental phobia websites in the world, waffle on endlessly with well-meant advice, but what really helps are usually the stories of other people who have overcome a dental phobia... If you have overcome a dental phobia (or a specific dental fear, for that matter), please post your story on the "Share Your Story" board!
It only takes one person who can identify with your story to help change that person's life.It doesn't matter if you've actually finished your treatment - if you think you've made a major breakthrough, that's enough! All stories will be put up on a separate website as well, and this will be an ongoing thing (not just for International Smile Week). If you do not want your story to appear (anonymously) on a website, drop us an e-mail at connect@dentalfearcentral.com and we'll make sure it won't go up. You can conceal your identity by changing minor details and not mentioning things like location. Thanks for making a difference !

I started setting up a template for it yesterday - it's here: dentalphobiastories.tripod.com/Obviously, it's not quite done yet (only started on it)... if you have any suggestions, leave them in this thread !

BTW, it doesn't have to be a novel or a literary masterpiece - just an account of your experiences, if you reckon they might help someone else - it can be as short or as long as you like !

Instead of posting on this board, you can now submit your story here: dentalphobiastories.tripod.com/share.html"E-mail", "Submitted by" and "Comments" are optional, you can just use the "My story" field, then click "submit". It's usually a good idea to type it into a wordprocessor first (as I found out earlier this evening, when my browser crashed ) Many thanks in advance to anyone who's prepared to help others out there by sharing their story

A lot of you have made giant strides over the last while, so - anyone who'd like to share their story can do so! If you'd rather wait until later, that's cool as well ! Your anonymity (unless you prefer to be named) and copyright will be respected. If at any point in the future you'd like to make changes (or even withdraw your entry), your wishes will be honoured. A few weeks ago, I was trying to think back to my dental phobia days and what I was actually reading on the internet, and which bits I ignored. It hit me that all I was really interested in at that stage were first-hand accounts by others (both good and bad). I only started to look up tips at a later stage. I don't know if others are the same, but I would suspect so (human beings being amazingly alike). So for National Smile Fortnight, it seems like a good idea to launch a site with first-hand stories with a very simple layout - it's so hard to concentrate on things like navigation when you're sitting there with your heart racing or feeling faint or breaking out in a cold sweat. Some of the stories I read back then gave me the hope that maybe not all was lost, and helped me realize that I wasn't alone in my fear. It would be brilliant if anyone who has overcome (or is in the process of overcoming) their dental phobia would be prepared to contribute their story here: dentalphobiastories.tripod.com/share.htmlThanx
