This message board is hosted by ProBoards (who host loads of message boards). It's a free service.
They make the rules and we have to follow them.
No idea why they decided poster have to be above the age of 13.
Another one of their rules is that posts must be in English.
We can't afford a fee paying hosting option - and by and large, the ProBoard rules aren't too bad to live with.

Hi someone,
it makes money firstly through the adverts that pop up when you use the board (The advertisers have to pay to put the adverts up and ProBoards hosts literally thousands of boards - not *just* this one).
Secondly, I suspect that a lot of people who start off with using the free services of ProBoards decide after a while to maybe change to one of the paying ones. (For example, we could pay a monthly fee and then not have these annoying adverts pop up.)

cool just wondered as 13 seems a bit of an odd age XXXXXXX Apparently it's got something to do with the law in California, which is where ProBoards are based.

sry if im annoying you but just wondered if this is a free hosted board how does any of it make money? i mean it wont do it for nothing will it? As G. pointed out, it's the ads at the top and bottom of the page that generate income for ProBoards. Since this week-end, it's possible to go ad-free again. Any member of the board can contribute $$ to make this board ad-free. Just click at the "make this board ad-free" link at the bottom of this site to contribute . It's about $7 a month for ad-free. Actually, I've been toying with the idea for a while...

Hey hey, Just before this post dies out, I'd like to offer a free hosting service to you guys. You can use PHP-BB, or any other type of Forum, regardless of how many SQL Databases it needs. Moving the database over should be pretty easy, and you'll have full admin control over the board, just as you should. You guys all helped me out alot with kind words and suggestions - I just want to give a little something back If you'd like an account, or more details, send me a PM or Email. (I have a whole Web Hosting site ) [edit] - oh aye - this is mainly aimed at the moderators/administrators here -- anyone else could either sign up for a free account, or a paid account -- I need to buy my bread somehow y'know? Also, the forums hosted on my server(s) are add free, pretty darnn customizable, etc. etc. -- and free - I can't see how you guys make money from these Forums, so why pay? ) Let me know, Dave

Many thanks for the kind offer ! I'll e-mail you over the next week - from memory, there's some sort of problem with transferring existing posts on ProBoards onto a new board, but I'll have to check it again... Cheers !

No worries at all! I can provide a subdomain (eg. dentalphobia.[removed].com) for the Forum, or if you want to .com it, then check out GoDaddy.com -- there's also .tk , . cjb.net , etc., but then the adverts return.. Anywho, send me an email with: Your requested cPanel / FTP Username Your requested cPanel / FTP Password Your contact email Your request domain (domain.mysite.com), or current domain (whatver.com , if it's already registered by you -- don't let me rip you off and register it ! ) Thinking about it, you could (if you want), move the whole of www.dentalfearcentral.com/ across, then have support.dentalfearcentral.com pointing to the Forum -- or something like that, your choice I'll set your stuff to: Unlimited Webspace Unlimited Bandwidth Unlimited POP3, mySQL, Subdomains, etc. etc. Full cPanel features A unique package, just for you! Er -- please don't abuse it, by putting up 50 400 megabyte file downloads! (You can of course, use it for personal things too - eg. ebay pictures, forum signatures, etc.) I'll await the email, Dave
