;DHello! I've had a full upper denture for about 3 months now and I wanted to pass on some of my tips for getting through this!If you are a gagger.....you can try a little Chloraseptic sprayed onto the palate before you put your denture in ( I didn't try this because I am scared of being numb)....if you feel like you are gagging or are nauseaous...hum.It's hard to throw up when you are humming..I'm not sure why this works! Also, open your mouth wide enough that you feel you have some "space", lean forward and tilt your head down -this eases your throat and also makes the salivia go forward to give you a little break. My biggest suggestion that I HIGHLY encourage is....NEVER take your denture out when you are panicking! It will make next time much worse - unless you are planning on going touthless.Do what ever you have to do to get through it...try the above...cry..stomp..curl up in a little ball..close your eyes and say the alphabet backwards, whatever. But wait until it passes, then you can give yourself a break.Believe me, this will make all the difference in your adjustment! Also know that depsite how your denture may feel...it is impossible for your denture to choke you or suffocate you!Hope this helps someone out there...there is also a very supportive denture group groups.msn.com/DenturesANewSmile.com - I hope it's ok for me to post that site here!
